Romance Scam Red Flag Checker
Romance scams often target people in long-distance and online relationships. This checker lists eight common warning signs. Tick the ones you have seen and get guidance on what to do next.
General information, not legal or immigration advice. Confirm fees and rules on official government sites. Free and private: what you type stays in your browser.
How to use it
- Tick every sign that matches your situation.
- Read the guidance for your total.
- If several are ticked, pause any money or personal details and talk to someone you trust.
How it works
The eight signs: refusing video calls, asking for money, gift cards or crypto, declaring love within days, never being able to meet, pushing you off the platform, pitching an investment, and mismatched photos or stories, plus pressure and secrecy. Zero ticks shows no flags, one or two means be careful, three or more means high risk. It is a guide, not proof either way.
Tips
- Never send money, gift cards or crypto to someone you have not met in person.
- Ask for a live video call and be wary of repeated excuses.
- Run profile photos through a reverse image search.
